SERIES SYNOPSIS
OUR LAW SERIES 2 continues to break new ground, privy to First Nations community perspectives, front-line police operations, squad-car conversations, high stakes decision-making, and the powerful personal journeys of First Nations police officers and recruits around Australia.
The cameras of OUR LAW follow Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander police out on the beat in a diverse range of locations and communities around Australia, each with its own unique history, culture and policing needs. The Western Australian Police cadets from Series 1 now face big new challenges and are joined in Series 2 by First Nations officers from the NSW Police Force, Victoria Police, and the Queensland Police Service.
This eight-part docuseries illustrates the full width and breadth, challenges, triumphs and pitfalls of being a modern First Nations police officer in Australia today, as well as shining a timely spotlight on many of the wider complexities facing First Nations-police relations. Narrated by Deborah Mailman, this series takes place at a historic moment for Australia’s state police jurisdictions as they each try to reconcile with First Nations communities, many of which are still reeling from past wrongful police actions and Australia’s long history of institutionalised and systemic racism.
OUR LAW SERIES 2 is an incredibly timely look at the role of First Nations police officers in changing police cultures from within and in rebuilding broken trust between police and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, ultimately asking, how can Australia move toward a system of justice that is fairer for everyone?
